Nobody likes to feel nauseous. It can be incredibly uncomfortable, often induce anxiety, and much of the time results in a loss of appetite. So the news coming from recent studies around CBD and its effects on nausea could provide a reason for hope.

The link between CBD and nausea relief is actually nothing new. It might surprise you to know that as far back as the 1870s, cannabis was being studied for its anti-nausea properties. However, it wasn’t until a recent study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology that we’ve even been able to begin to understand how cannabinoids act to suppress nausea or enhance appetite.

Before We Begin Though, Let’s Remind Ourselves Exactly What CBD Is.

CBD is the acronym for cannabidiol derived from the cannabis plant. It has many medical benefits with no psychoactive effects, and it is this that makes it appealing to people searching for relief from pain, anxiety, inflammation, and nausea.

How can CBD help with nausea?

Nausea is a non-specific symptom and not a disease. It has many causes and due to it’s being a symptom, can be challenging to treat. For instance, Dimenhydrinate is an efficient treatment for motion sickness, which causes nausea, but it is highly uncommon that the drug works to cure other forms of nausea, whose cause if different.

Common Causes of Nausea:

Radiation therapy, morning sickness, medications, chemotherapy, concussion, migraines, bowel obstruction, gastroenteritis, pregnancy, and viral illnesses.

The Endocannabinoid system and Nausea:

CBD targets the endocannabinoid system, a portion of the brain that contains CB1 and CB2 receptors. When administered, the non-intoxicating properties of CBD interact with the receptors in the endocannabinoid system, helping to regulate some of the effects and feelings that result in nausea and vomiting.

How can CBD help with appetite enhancement?

More often than not, the conditions that lead to nausea also invoke symptoms like anxiety, stress, and depression, all of which add to the feeling of a lack of appetite. By boosting the body’s endocannabinoid system with CBD, we can help to reduce anxiety, ease stress and boost energy, all of which lead to improved body function and better regulation of our vital systems, including those that control hunger.

Taking CBD for Nausea:

As you know, there are numerous ways to consume CBD, with some methods are better than others based on the relief that an individual desires. For nausea and other stomach problems, it is generally considered that oral forms of administration are preferable and most effective, owing to the rapid rate of absorption.

We are monitoring developments in the links between CBD and nausea closely, and as deeper science becomes available, we will be sure to highlight it. For now, don’t forget to contact us if you have questions on how CBD can help you, or let us know of any studies you have been a part of that sheds more light on the subject. We would love to hear.
